Heroin worth Rs 42 L seized, one arrested in Dehradun

The Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested a drug smuggler with heroin in Dehradun on Thursday. The alleged peddler was arrested from Vasant Vihar. The police recovered 144 grams of heroin from the accused. The international market value of the seized drug is estimated to be about Rs 42 lakh, police said. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Gufran, son of late Furkan. He lives in Azad Colony under Patel Nagar police station area of Dehradun and originally hails from Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. During questioning, the accused is stated to have told the police that he had brought the heroin from a person named Tarun Pal alias Chinu in Dehradun and planned to sell it in small quantities to customers.

Police have registered a case against the accused at Vasant Vihar police station under NDPS Act. The police are also investigating the role of the other person named by the accused.

According to the SSP, STF, Ajai Singh, the action was taken under the Drug-Free Devbhoomi campaign launched by the State government. He appealed to the people to inform the police about any drug trafficking activities.
