A task force will be deployed at the accident prone spot in Mohabbewala on the Dehradun-Delhi highway to prevent road accidents. The Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has directed police and Transport department officials to conduct round the clock patrolling and intensive checking in the area. The DM and Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli inspected the accident prone stretch on Saturday, interacting with the local residents.
Overspeeding and overloading were identified as major causes of accidents in the area, officials said. The DM directed the departments concerned to take immediate action against vehicles violating speed and load limits. The task force will work under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. It will remain active until accidents at the spot are brought under effective control, officials said. Chauhan also ordered officials to set up a check post before the accident-prone area. Heavy and loaded vehicles will be checked for overloading. Officials have also been asked to prepare a plan to improve traffic movement, including a possible roundabout.
The officials were directed to conduct a fresh technical inspection of the road. They will examine the road design, curve, slope, visibility and traffic pressure. The DM also ordered the installation of more warning signs, CCTV cameras, speed breakers and speed monitoring equipment.
