The rejection of the review petition filed by the State government in the Supreme Court in the horticulture scam has given a chance to the opposition Congress to attack the BJP government. The party has demanded that the horticulture minister should take the moral responsibility for the debacle of the government and resign from his post.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the State government went to the SC against the order of the Uttarakhand High Court regarding the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in horticulture scam but it got a severe reprimand there. He said that it is hard to understand as to why the state government is so keen to protect the corrupt in the case. Mahara said that SC has expressed annoyance at the fact that the government wants the protection of SC for saving the corrupt.

The PCC president said that the State government should answer as to why it didn’t order an inquiry when the complainant submitted his complaint in the case. He said that the minister ordered an inquiry when a PIL was filed in HC but the findings of the inquiry were not made public. The PCC president said that the government should reply as to why it appointed a tainted officer from Himachal Pradesh on the post of director in the horticulture department and gave him a service extension.

The leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya said that the rejection of a review petition filed by SC in the horticulture scam has proved that the State BJP government is trying to protect the corrupt.

He said, “while rejecting the review petition of the government, the Supreme Court has raised questions on the intentions of the state government and asked why the Uttarakhand government wants to stop the CBI investigation against the corrupt? After the CBI inquiry order by the HC, the  Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi had said that the corrupt will be prosecuted but the government went to the SC to protect the officers and the BJP MLA and his brother involved in the scam.’’
