Hosting National Games challenge & opportunity for U’khand

Chief secretary Radha Raturi said that hosting the 38th National Games-2024 is both a golden opportunity and a major challenge for Uttarakhand.Chairing a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) of the National Games- 2024 on Friday, she instructed the officers to finalise the preparations promptly and said that the sports infrastructure of the State should be upgraded to an excellent level for the National Games so that the emerging young sports talents of the state are benefited from it in future. In the meeting various financial and in-principle approvals were also given.
In the meeting Raturi directed the officers to complete the tender process related to procurement of the sports equipment in a timely manner. She also instructed all the departments concerned to work in a coordinated and systematic manner for successful organization of the National Games.
The CS said that the municipal corporations of Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani and Rudrapur should work in coordination with the different departments for the beautification of cities, repair of approach roads leading to the sports venues, waste management in the venues and providing the benefit of bus services to volunteers.
She directed Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) to coordinate with officials for ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the event and issuance of the electrical safety certificates for the venues.
Raturi also directed the officers of the Peyjal Nigam to ensure issuance of structural safety certification of the venues. She said that the Public Works Department should complete the beautification work of inner and outer roads of the organizing cities and issuance of the structural safety certification of the venues.
She asked the Food and Civil Supplies department to give fit- to-eat certification to each venue of the National Games. Raturi directed the Health department to coordinate regarding the arrangements of physiotherapists, psychotherapists, nurses, medicines and other facilities at the venues.
