UPNL employees reject subcommittee decision on regularisation

The agitating workers of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) have rejected the State Government’s decision to constitute a cabinet subcommittee regarding their regularisation. The UPNL workers across the State are on a strike for the last few days and have been staging a protest at Parade Ground in Dehradun since Monday. The workers are advocating for the regularisation of their employment and equal pay for equal work.
The officiating president of the UPNL Federation of Employees, Mahesh Bhatt informed that the protests began on Monday at Parade Ground. He stated that the demonstration continued on Wednesday as well. Bhatt said that the agitating workers were hoping that the State cabinet will take a favourable decision on their demand. However, the cabinet opted to form a subcommittee to address the issue of their regularisation which is unacceptable.
Bhatt emphasised that this is not the first time a committee has been formed for their concerns; similar subcommittees have been created three to four times previously but have ultimately been dismissed over time. As a result, the workers reject the State government’s decision and urge them to take direct action on their demands. Given the recent cabinet decision, which is not in their favour, the workers are prepared to escalate their protests in the coming days and may organise a rally to address their unresolved demands, he said.
