Incentive announced for controlling forest fire

In latest news from Dehradun, with the forests, particularly in Kumaon division, turning infernos due to fast-spreading fire, the State forest minister Subodh Uniyal announced incentive amount from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh to the forest fire management committees. He spelled out three main reasons behind forest fire incidents-stubble burning by farmers, people flinging carelessly burning cigarettes/ bidis in forest and mischievous individuals or groups igniting the fire intentionally.
The minister said that the State government alone could not control forest fire and for success of its efforts, the village communities must be actively involved in it. With this objective in view, 541 forest fire management committees headed by the respective gram pradhans have been formed and each of these has been provided with an incentive amount of Rs 30,000.
Uniyal further said that the 13 committees would be selected for an award of Rs 1, 00,000, 13 for an award of Rs 50,000 and 13 for an award of Rs 25,000 in terms of their performance in controlling and quelling forest fire.
