Dehradun police arrested five accused on Tuesday, including a close relative of the complainant in a robbery case reported in the Patelnagar police station area. The police also recovered cash, two illegal country made pistols, knives and other items from the accused.
According to the police, the robbery took place on the night of January 8 at a house in Van Vihar, Mehuwala. Four men entered the house, assaulted family members and looted about Rs one lakh in cash and jewellery. After the victim, Sharafat filed a complaint, police teams checked CCTV camera footage from nearby areas and questioned local informers. Based on information received, police arrested five accused on Tuesday near Telpur Chowk.
Police said the main accused, Bushran Rana, turned out to be the complainant’s relative. He knew about a land deal in Saharanpur and believed that a large amount of money would be kept at the house. He planned the robbery with his associates. However, the land deal was cancelled, so the accused got only limited cash and jewellery.
Police recovered Rs 91,950, two country-made pistols, live cartridges, knives and an iron rod. Further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to recover the remaining jewellery, police said.
