A special protection of children from sexual offenses (POCSO) court in Dehradun has sentenced a man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy in 2021. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Archana Sagar pronounced the accused Mohd Aamir guilty of the crime under Section 377 of the IPC and Sections 5(d) and 6 of the POCSO Act.
According to the public prosecutor, Alpana Thapa, the incident happened in Bhagat Singh Colony, Raipur. “The child was playing with friends when Aamir took him away on a scooter to a desolate area and committed the crime. On running back home, the boy told his mother about the assault he had suffered. She then reached the police station and an FIR was registered the same day,” she informed. During the trial, the child had identified Aamir in court. Medical evidence had also confirmed the injuries, matching with the assault.
The court sentenced Aamir to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and a fine of Rs 10,000. If the fine is not paid, he will serve an extra one month in jail. The time he has already spent in custody since 2021 will be counted in the sentence. The court also directed that the survivor should receive Rs 2,00, 000 compensation from the State government.
