International Apple Festival inaugurated in Doon

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with Agriculture minister Subodh Uniyal inaugurated the international apple festival as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami appreciated the event organised by the Horticulture department. Commending the works being done by horticulture personnel in the interests of the farmers, he said that the pace of these efforts should be stepped up. Responding to Uniyal’s request, he announced that horticulture workers will also be considered Covid warriors. He also announced that the budget for the mission apple being conducted by the state government will be doubled.

While welcoming the CM to the event, the Agriculture minister said that this programme will lend a new direction to apple cultivation in the state. Appreciating the department for organising the international apple festival for the first time in Uttarakhand, Uniyal expressed hope that more such events will be held in the future to benefit the farmers.

Horticulture director HS Baweja said that the department is fully supporting farmers to achieve quality produce through the use of latest technology. Uttarakhand will soon achieve a rise in apple production, he added.
