Interns call off stir after cabinet hikes stipend, PG doctors continue protest

Following the cabinet approval on Friday to increase the stipend of medical interns in five government medical colleges of the State to Rs 25,000 per month, intern doctors at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital ended their protest. However, with no decision on hike in stipend of postgraduate doctors, PG doctors continued their protest within the hospital premises.

The PG doctors had started their protest on Tuesday while intern doctors had started their round-the-clock protest outside the OPD building of GDMC Hospital on Monday. PG doctors are demanding an increase in stipend from Rs 69,000 to Rs 1,25,000, while intern doctors were demanding a hike from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000.

On Friday, while PG doctors continued their protest, intern doctors at GDMC Hospital withdrew and called off their protest around 3 PM after cabinet approval for stipend hike.
The PG doctors said that they continued the protest on Friday . They added it will  continue till authorities concerned take any action related to their said demand. 

On the other hand, MBBS intern Dr Kunal Singh said that they called off their protest after the decision taken in the cabinet on Friday. He said though they had demanded a Rs 30,000 hike, the cabinet has approved Rs 25,000 and respecting that, they have ended their protest. At the time of filing this report, PG doctors were continuing their protest outside the OPD building of GDMC Hospital.
