Interstate drug trafficker held with heroin worth Rs 26 L

The Vikasnagar police arrested an interstate drug trafficker and recovered 86.31 grams of heroin (smack) worth around Rs 26 lakh during a checking drive on Thursday. The accused was identified as 24-year-old Zakir, a resident of Mirzapur in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, a team was checking vehicles near the Gas Godown area in Vikasnagar, when they stopped and searched for a suspect. The accused, Zakir was found carrying 86.31 grams of heroin, police said. Police immediately arrested him and registered a case under the NDPS Act.

During questioning, Zakir told police that he had bought the heroin from a drug supplier in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, a police officer, privy to the details, said. “He was planning to sell the drugs to local addicts, labourers working in nearby areas and students studying in educational institutions in and around Vikasnagar. However, police caught him before he could supply the contraband,” the officer further said.

Police sources said that the interrogation of the accused has also provided important information about other members of the drug network. Raids are being conducted to trace and arrest the remaining traffickers, police declared.
