The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) held a protest and burned an effigy of the BJP government at Dron Chowk in Dehradun on Thursday. The leaders said that the demonstration had been organised against the lathi charge on the students and youth while they were holding a peaceful rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the NEET paper leak issue. The party also expressed solidarity with the agitating unemployed nursing graduates in Dehradun.
Addressing the gathering, a senior UKD leader, Praveen Ramola said that the youngsters are being forced to come onto the streets to fight for their future. “Instead of listening to their demands, the Centre is using brutal force to gag their voice. This militates against the spirit of democracy,” he added.
Echoing the view, another UKD leader, Rajendra Bisht said that the nursing aspirants’ continuing stir and even attempted suicides had raised serious questions about the State’s recruitment system. He demanded justice for the aspirants and better handling of recruitment-related issues.
The party also demanded a fair inquiry into the alleged lathi-charge on students in Delhi and called for the prompt resolution of the pending demands of the nursing aspirants. “The recruitment process in the State must be made transparent and they must be completed in time,” said Ramola, adding that his party would continue articulating the grievances of the youth of the country as well as the State.
