The Irrigation department and Public Works Department (PWD) have made all necessary arrangements in view of the monsoon. A central flood control cell has been set up in the Dehradun irrigation division apart from which flood control cells have also been formed in both Garhwal and Kumaon. Apart from this, a large number of mechanical excavators have been deployed to open roads blocked during the rains. The Irrigation and PWD minister Satpal Maharaj said this while addressing the media here on Thursday.
As in every year, the Irrigation department has established a flood control cell in the nodal division of each district from June 15. These cells operate 24×7. The central flood control cell established in Dehradun can be reached at 9027022700. Further, the executive engineer in-charge of flood control has established a WhatsApp group with State level officers as members for exchange of flood related information. A total of 113 flood posts have also been established across the State with arrangements being made to provide warning to villagers. The department is consistently monitoring the level of all major rivers in the State while vulnerable places are also being monitored.
The PWD has also prepared for the monsoon with a total of 396 mechanical excavators being deployed across the State. Most of these machines are fitted with GPS so that their location can be ascertained. In case of any road being blocked, the operator of the mechanical excavator can be directly contacted and sent to the site for necessary work. The minister further informed that instructions have been issued to clear roadside drains so that rainwater drains out of roads swiftly and so that the roads are not damaged.
