Jauljibi Fair, a reflection of India-Nepal friendship & socio-economic integration: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the historic Jauljibi Fair at the confluence of Kali and Gori rivers on India- Nepal border in Pithoragarh district on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion the CM said that this fair has been a symbol of the cultural, economic and traditional friendship between India and Nepal for centuries. “The Jauljibi Fair is not just an event, but a reflection of India-Nepal’s traditional friendship and socio-economic integration. I used to attend this fair during my childhood,’’ he said. 

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the friendship between India and Nepal has grown stronger. Dhami said that on the occasion of silver jubilee programme of foundation of Uttarakhand, PM Modi had stated that the soul of Uttarakhand resides in its fairs and festivals and called for the launch of a “One District, One Fair” programme in the State. He said that under this programme special support will be given to one major fair in every district of the State. 

The CM assured that the State government is working dedicatedly for overall development of the area. He said a medical college is being constructed in Pithoragarh at a cost of over Rs 750 crore and a multipurpose hall has also been constructed at the Sports College at a cost of Rs 34 crore. 

He announced that a stadium in Berinag will be constructed at a cost of Rs 28 crore. The CM said that a 50-bed critical care block is also being constructed at Pithoragarh Medical College at a cost of  Rs 21 crores. New bus stations are being constructed in Askot, Gangolihat and Dharchula. The Chief Minister said that construction work of various roads in the region are also underway under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. To enhance connectivity in Pithoragarh, the expansion of Naini Saini Airport is progressing at a rapid pace. He added that a sum of Rs 450 crore has been approved for the project and the land acquisition process is underway.

Dhami said that the State government is providing employment and self-employment opportunities for the youngsters and the recruitment process has been transparent.

Earlier in the day the CM participated in the National Unity Padyatra. 

MLAs Harish Dhami and Bishan Singh Chuphal and others attended the programme.
