Joshi orders Traffic officials to repair all kaput traffic signals in Doon within two weeks

Inspector general of police and director of Traffic Directorate, Arun Mohan Joshi directed Dehradun Traffic police to repair all non-functional traffic signals within two weeks or strict action will be taken against the officials concerned. He stated this during the inspection of the Doon Integrated Command and Control Centre (DICCC) at ITDA Dehradun on Tuesday. He reviewed the operational efficiency of DICCC, particularly the traffic management systems. Various traffic-related equipment, including Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) cameras and Speed Violation Detection System (SVDS) cameras were also tested during the inspection. Joshi said during the inspection that the official concerned in Dehradun traffic police will coordinate with relevant departments to repair all non-functional traffic signals within two weeks. If the signals are not repaired within the given timeframe, legal action will be taken against them. The official was further directed to notify the office if the traffic signals remain inoperative after all efforts at the district level. The officials will also ensure the placement of virtual lines at all intersections equipped with RLVD cameras through the DICCC project manager for issuing challans using RLVD cameras. He also directed to place large information boards at locations where RLVD and SVDS cameras are installed to inform citizens that they are under camera surveillance and that red light violations will result in a challan. This is aimed at raising public awareness about traffic rules. He also directed that necessary action should be taken for challans where the mobile number is not displayed to prevent delays in the challan process. Joshi also informed that Emergency Call Boxes (ECB) have been installed at 107 locations across intersections in Dehradun. These boxes assist the public during emergencies and provide bus information. A video recording of ECB operations was reviewed, revealing that 15,401 citizens have used the service so far. The operational manager of Master Solution Integration (MSI) DICCC was instructed to enhance the system’s effectiveness. He also directed the officials to deploy additional personnel for enforcement actions.
