Expressing concern over non appointment of a vice chancellor (VC) in HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, the BJP leader Ravindra Jugran has requested the President of India to intervene on the issue. In a letter to the President, Jugran who is the former chairperson of Uttarakhand Rajya Nirman Andolankari Samman Parishad and former vice president of State youth welfare council said that the tenure of former VC Annpurna Nautiyal had ended on October 31, 2024 and thereafter the central university is functioning sans VC.
He said that after superannuation of the former VC, the process of appointment of a new VC in accordance with the Central Universities Act 2009 should have started. However the process has not started due to which the functioning of the University is being affected. Terming the situation as unprecedented the BJP leader requested the President who also is the visitor of the University to issue an order which ensures that the important post of VC does not remain vacant for a long period of time.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is endeavouring to make India a world leader and sincere efforts in this direction are being made. “However we should not forget that the path of becoming a world leader passes through our universities. If there is carelessness in ensuring proper arrangements in University then it would be detrimental for the students. I request to appoint an acting VC in the HNB Garhwal University,’’ wrote Jugran in his letter to the President.
