Dhami exhorts people to gift books instead of bouquets

Exhorting the people to gift books instead of bouquets, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that everyone should make it a habit of reading and purchasing good books. This will not only increase interest in books but also inspire writers, he said. 

The CM was addressing a small gathering of writers, politicians, academicians and journalists at his residence after releasing a book ‘ Uttarakhand Rajya Ka Naveen Rajnetik Itihas’ authored by senior journalist Jay Singh Rawat at his residence on Saturday. Complimenting Rawat, the CM said his new book presents a complete and authentic documentary journey of the political, administrative and gradual development of Uttarakhand. He said that in today’s era where Artificial Intelligence is holding sway it is imperative that our culture and dialects are preserved and added that AI cannot become a substitute for a book.

He said, “Language, culture, and customs are not just means of expression, but the foundation of our identity and heritage. Therefore, it is essential that we preserve our dialects and languages and instil a sense of pride in them in future generations.” The CM said it is crucial to educate the new generation about the hardships and struggles our ancestors faced to preserve their traditions, social values and language. He added that when children understand their roots, their self-confidence and cultural consciousness are strengthened.

In his address, former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the politicians and general public should know the basic idea for creation of Uttarakhand. He stressed on the need of creative writing on culture, history and society of the State, Rawat said that all the important manuscripts and books should be digitised so the new generation. Former CM and governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari expressed hope that Jay Singh Rawat will write more books for the benefit of the people of the State.
