The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh should remove the State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar for his partisan role in the recent Panchayat elections in the State. Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Saturday, Dhasmana said that the Supreme Court has imposed a penalty on the SEC for not following the order of Uttarakhand High Court on the issue of candidates having names in multiple voter lists and filing an appeal in the SC against the HC order.
Dhasmana said that the order of SC mentions that the counsel of the SEC repeatedly demanded hearing and passage of an order which exposes the stubborn and careless attitude of the State Election Commission. Annoyed by this behaviour the SC imposed a penalty of Rs two lakh on the SEC.
He said that the order of SC has vindicated the stand of the Congress party on the issue. Dhasmana said that in the wake of the SC order the SEC Kumar should tender his resignation failing which the governor should terminate him.
