The Panchayati Raj minister, Madan Kaushik has directed the department to make efforts to develop five villages in every block as model villages. These villages will serve as the basis to improve other Gram Panchayats.  The minister said this during a review meeting with departmental officials on Wednesday.

Kaushik said that there are 7,817 Gram Panchayats in the State, where the government has been implementing various developmental projects. Since Gram Panchayats are the smallest unit of the Panchayati Raj system, their development is a top priority.

He instructed officials to inspect the villages and to complete the essential projects in a systematic manner. Additionally, he emphasised that drainage and waste disposal management should be improved in the Gram Panchayats and that new Panchayat buildings should be constructed in areas where they are currently lacking. He said that the Government of India allocates funds each year for the construction of these buildings.

Kaushik called for efforts to strengthen and enhance village Panchayats and asked the officers to work with transparency and maintain high standards of quality, while focusing on the basic needs of the Panchayats. He also highlighted the importance of conducting regular inspections of Panchayat buildings.
