The Kumaon Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) said through a statement released to the media on Wednesday that its president Ashok Bansal attended the State Electricity Advisory Committee meeting held at the office of Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) in Dehradun and placed a string of demands to further the State’s prospects in the matter of industrialisation. He said that due to the peculiar geographical condition of the State and its distance from the sea coast, the entrepreneurs running business in the State face massive transportation expenses and consequently the State is lagging behind other States. He urged the UPCL to lighten the burden of the business community by ending the tax levied on the electricity bill and to desist from hiking tariff on electricity consumption.
