Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge exhorted party workers to unite to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party from power. At a meeting attended by leaders and party workers at a hotel here on the second day of Kharge’s Uttarakhand tour on Sunday, detailed discussions were held on the party’s strategy for the coming elections, how to strengthen the party organisation and prepare for the 2027 Assembly polls.
Earlier on Saturday, Kharge had addressed a public gathering in Haldwani and held a meeting with party MLAs in the evening. Addressing the meeting on Sunday, the party chief claimed that the people of the nation and Uttarakhand had made up their minds in favour of change. He exhorted the party workers to put in all effort to prepare for the 2027 Vidhan Sabha election. He accused the BJP-led Central government of being bent upon “selling the nation”. He said, “The major projects dedicated to the nation by the Congress are being looted. The BJP is proving to be a stain for the nation,” he said. Targetting the State government, Kharge questioned BJP leaders for calling him a tourist. He alleged that the BJP government was mired in corruption and arrogance, which will ensure its downfall. “The people are tired of the price rise, unemployment and anti-people policies of the BJP government. In such a situation, the Congress must reach the public and inform it about the party’s policies and ideas. The chances of winning the election will depend on the party’s strength at the booth level. All the party leaders must maintain unity and work hard at the ground level to prominently raise issues concerning the public,” the Congress president said.
Congress State in-charge Kumari Selja, co-in-charge Manoj Yadav, Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal, leader of opposition Yashpal Arya and other senior leaders were also present in the meeting.
