Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat has set a target for State universities in Uttarakhand to ensure campus placements for 10,000 students each year. Under this initiative, universities and their affiliated colleges will organise campus interviews for final year students and aim to secure a minimum monthly package of Rs one lakh for them. Rawat announced this plan while addressing a two-day education Chintan Shivir organised by the Higher Education department here on Wednesday.
He said that similar to vocational programmes in over 500 secondary schools that provide employment through campus placements, higher education institutions will also facilitate placements for 10,000 students annually. Each university and affiliated college must establish a placement cell to coordinate campus recruitment and match students with employment opportunities in their respective fields. He also urged universities to focus on national rankings and national assessment and accreditation council (NAAC) grading.
The sessions of the Shivir covered topics including skill-based education and teaching methods under NEP-2020, research and innovation in a knowledge economy, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in higher education, industry-academia linkages to reduce skill gaps and a discussion on a drug-free Uttarakhand. Experts and academics also shared their perspectives and recommendations in each session.
