Three arrested for murdering youth over money dispute

Three men were arrested on Sunday for the murder of a 28-year-old man from Dehradun over a money dispute on February 9. Earlier, a taxi driver named Rajnandan was also arrested in connection with the case and he had revealed details about the murder to the police.

The accused identified as Hemant Semwal, Adil and Vaibhav alias Sanju — were arrested near ISBT on Haridwar Bypass Road. The police also recovered an iron rod, a hammer and the victim’s shoes. All three accused had a criminal record, police said. 

Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal informed the media that all three accused were friends of the victim Digamber Dhiman. The accused said that they had a dispute with Dhiman over Rs 2.5 lakh. They called him to a room in the Race Course area, where they consumed intoxicants together. When Dhiman refused to return the money, they attacked him with an iron rod and hammer. He died due to heavy bleeding. During questioning, the accused said that after the murder, they took the body in a taxi and dumped it in the Chidiyapur forest. 

Notably, Dhiman had gone missing on February 9 after which his father filed a missing person complaint. During the investigation, police found that Dhiman was last seen with some of his friends. They had left together in a taxi on the night of February 9. Police traced the taxi driver, who revealed that the accused had carried a body wrapped in a blanket and dumped it in the forests of Chidiyapur. Based on his information, the police recovered the body and arrested the driver.
