KU hosts series of lectures on Vedas

A series of lectures was organised in the Sanskrit department of DSB campus of Kumaun University. On this occasion, the vice- chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar, Prof Dinesh Chandra Shastri said that Vedic literature is the most ancient and original source of Indian knowledge tradition which helps in understanding the roots of Indian civilisation, culture and philosophical thinking. “In the Vedas, we find details of Varna system, four Purusharthas of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) and Ashram system (Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha and Sanyas) which were created to build a balanced society,” he said, adding that the Vedic knowledge has provided the basis for significant contribution in myriad fields like mathematics, astronomy, medicine, architecture and agriculture among many others. The basic inspiration of language, music and poetry is also considered to have come from the Vedas,” he observed.

In his address, a lecturer, Raj Mangal Yadav dwelt on the importance of Gurukul tradition.
