KU hosts Tulsi plantation to mark Harela

In latest news from Uttarakhand, Tulsi saplings were planted in the department of Botany in Kumaun University’s DSB campus on the occasion of Harela festival. The KU officials said that this plantation programme held to mark Harela aims at encouraging human participation in greenery and nature conservation initiatives. Among those present included the dean, agriculture, Prof Jeet Ram and a senior professor Surendra Singh Bargli.
Tulsi- called Ocimum Sanctum, is an important part of Indian culture whose properties are found mentioned even in the Vedas. Rich in Vitamin C and Zinc, it has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Tulsi is also known as Haripriya, Vishnupriya, Vrinda and Shyama and the tea made of Tulsi leaves is a popular across the country.
