PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Nainital

With tourists thronging Nainital in their hordes for the new year celebration from across the country, the commissioner of Kumaon division and secretary to the chief minister, Deepak Rawat directed the officers of police, revenue, transport and excise departments to maintain public safety and streamline the traffic system.  He said that the officers of all the departments concerned should ensure that no road accident happens due to overloading, over speeding and drunk driving.

He stated that a large number of devotees and tourists reach various places across Kumaon division around this time. “To avert any untoward incidents, including accidents, joint teams of administration, police, transport and excise departments should conduct regular intensive vehicle checking drives in all the districts under the division. During checking, proper documentation of all the proceedings should be done and photographic evidence should also be kept mandatorily,” he said.

He further warned them to remain alert and active due to the current heavy fog. “This is when vehicles and trucks, parked on the roads, are not clearly visible, which increases the risk of accidents. Therefore, vehicles, parked on the roadside, should be removed immediately,” he said and directed proper parking arrangements be made. This aside, he stressed on ensuring fire fighting systems  remain operational at all the locations where new year parties or other celebratory events are held on the occasion of New Year’s Day.

Rawat also directed all the district magistrates, senior superintendents of police and superintendents of police of the division to ensure strict compliance of the orders so that the safety of the people and tourists is ensured during the festivities.
