Despite vehicular movement remaining prohibited on Upper Mall Road’s Mallital to India Hotel stretch from 6 to 8 PM to facilitate a smooth tourist movement during the New Year festivities, police have noticed cases of violation of this order and taken stern action. The police sources said that people were seen riding two wheelers on this stretch when the place was chock a block with tourists. Taking a serious note of this violation of the order, Tallital police swung into action against four persons.
Notably, due to the ongoing repair work in Lower Mall Road, Upper Mall Road is being closed these days along the stretch from the District Information Office to Alka Hotel. “But even after that, people are riding two-wheelers at high speed during the prohibited time which may cause a major accident with tourists roaming about the place,” a police officer said.
The superintendent of police (Traffic), Jagdish Chandra stated that officials have been instructed to ensure that no vehicles are allowed to travel in the opposite direction during the evening one-way traffic. “Strict action will be taken against any vehicle found driving and riding on Upper Mall Road from the Information Office to India Hotel between 6 PM and 8 PM,” he added.
