With about 150 people being hospitalised after consuming buckwheat flour (kuttu atta) in Dehradun, police under the direction of the SSP Ajai Singh raided and sealed 22 shops and stores which had allegedly sold the wheat that caused the food poisoning. They also seized samples of kuttu atta left for sale. These shop owners when interrogated are learnt to have said that they had collected the atta from a Saharanpur-based supplier following which the Doon SSP contacted the Saharanpur district magistrate. Besides, a police team has left for Saharanpur for an on-site investigation.
Meanwhile, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Coronation Hospital to inquire about the health of people who fell ill due to food poisoning. He talked to the patients and then directed the Dehradun district magistrate and Health department officials to ensure proper treatment for them. He also asked them to arrange extra beds in the government health facilities if the situation so warranted.
Due to food poisoning, 66 patients have been admitted to Coronation Hospital while 44 to Doon Medical College.
The CM further said that to prevent recurrence, the Health department and Food Safety department along with other related departments would jointly investigate. “Action will be taken against those to be found negligent,” he said.
