LED displays to show water quality on Char Dham circuit

MANSI BHAMBRI/Dehradun

Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) has installed about 18 LED display boards this year along the Char Dham Yatra routes to provide information about the water quality available to the pilgrims. The Char Dham Yatra is slated to start on April 19. According to UJS officials, the preparation for the Yatra is in its final stages to ensure better services for pilgrims.

Last year, UJS initiated the use of LED displays along the Yatra routes to inform pilgrims about the water quality available to them through the installed water structures. Since this was the initial phase of the initiative, fewer LED displays were installed. However, seeing the success of last year’s initiative, UJS has installed a total of 18 water quality LED displays along the Yatra routes this year. The main purpose of these displays is to inform pilgrims that the water provided through these structures has been tested for chemical, biological and other factors. This aims to encourage them to drink the water without any cost rather than purchasing bottled water, they added.

UJS officials also stated that other preparations for the Char Dham Yatra are in the final stages. Currently, the water structures along the Char Dham Yatra route include 211 Tank Type Stand Posts (TTSP), 370 Pillar Type Stand Posts (PTSP), 1,062 hand pumps, 75 water ATMs and 33 geysers for hot water for horses and mules. In addition, 330 signboards have also been installed. Officials informed that monitoring and checking of these water structures are ongoing and any necessary repairs are being made within the stipulated time. They expect that by April 10, all these water structures will be fully operational, they said.

Officials further added that additionally, pilgrims facing any issues related to water can contact the UJS toll-free numbers: 1800 180 4100 and 1916. These numbers will also be displayed on the water structures.
