Award to be presented for fearless journalism in memory of Jagmohan Sethi

A journalist will be chosen annually in the State and presented an award for strengthening society and democracy through fearless journalism. The award will be constituted next year by the family of veteran journalist and founding member of the Uttaranchal Press Club, the late Jagmohan Sethi. This was announced at an event held in his memory by the Sethi family and the Press Club here on Wednesday.

The club’s fouder president Devendra Bhasin said that Sethi will be remembered for his powerful and unhesitant writing. He exemplified the mentality of ‘friendship with none, animosity with none’ during his journalistic career. Sethi never compromised with his writing and did not bow before the establishment, Bhasin said.

State Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt recalled how readers used to await reports written by Sethi, while some in the establishment used to fear his exposes. Senior journalist Jay Singh Rawat recalled his experience of working with Sethi and stressed on the need to retain journalistic ethics.

Press Club president Bhupendra Kandari informed that Sethi’s writings will continue to remind people that fearless writing is the real strength of democracy. The Sethi family will form a society in his memory next year and every year journalists will be awarded for fearless journalism which is in the interests of society and democracy.

Former Press Club president Navin Thaledi, Congress leader Aryendra Sharma, Uttarakhand Bar Council head Rakesh Gupta and Dehradun Bar Association president Manmohan Kandwal also expressed their views on the occasion.

Sethi’s sons- Girish Sethi recalled instances from his father’s journalistic life while Yogesh Sethi thanked the gathering for its presence.
