Scientific advisory committee meeting at KVK Gaina focuses on agriculture–livestock development

Presiding over the 21st meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gaina, the vice-chancellor of G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Manmohan Singh Chauhan emphasised the need to address farmers’ problems through scientific technologies and called for stronger coordination with line departments to ensure that the benefits of the government schemes reach farmers at the grassroots level. He directed the animal husbandry specialists to introduce advanced Udaipur breed goats at KVK and implement special programmes on scientific management, breed improvement and dissemination to enhance the income of farmers in mountainous regions.

His address also laid emphasis on training rural women in the preparation of value-added products such as soy paneer, finger millet (mandua)-based lassi, curd and other nutritious products to generate additional income opportunities and promote balanced nutrition at the local level.

Among the dignitaries present was the district magistrate Pithoragarh, Ashish Kumar Bhatgain, senior scientists from the university, scientists and subject matter specialists of KVK Gaina and officers from various line departments, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

Bhatgain appreciated the efforts of KVK Gaina, stating that farmers are directly benefiting from the training and technical guidance provided by the centre. He assured full support from the district administration for future initiatives.
