PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Nainital

The president of Nainital Hotel and Restaurant Association, Digvijay Singh Bisht submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal regarding the cracks that have developed on  Upper Mall Road surfaces due to the slow pace of construction work on Lower Mall Road and the increased vehicle pressure on the Upper Mall Road. He expressed serious concerns over the adverse impact it has been leaving on tourism and other forms of local trade.

“A technical investigation should be conducted immediately into the cracks and the potential dangers they pose for the Upper Mall Road. This is to ensure that the road does not suffer further damage in the future,” he wrote.

He further urged the DM to give strict instructions to the executing agency involved in the lakefront stabilisation and pillar repairing project to complete the construction work of Lower Mall Road by a time-limit to be set by the administration.

He said that the agitation being led by the traders would end only after the administration assured them that long-delayed work would be completed by a fixed time-frame.
