Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj appealed to devotees of Rajasthan to consider visiting Uttarakhand for a safe winter Char Dham Yatra. He made this appeal while meeting Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday. Maharaj discussed winter Yatra opportunities in Uttarakhand, emphasising that the Char Dham sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath attract millions of pilgrims during the summer months. However, with the arrival of winter, these Dham become inaccessible due to heavy snowfall and the doors of the temples are closed to the public, he said.

He further added that during this season, the presiding deities of these pilgrimage sites retreat to lower altitudes, where devotees can pay their obeisance to them by undertaking the winter Char Dham Yatra. He informed the Rajasthan CM that on December 8, the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami initiated the winter Yatra programme. The state government has made all necessary arrangements to ensure its success, he said.

Maharaj said that considering this, despite the severe cold, the enthusiasm of the devotees continues to grow. Thousands of devotees have already visited the winter abodes of the Char Dham deities. Maharaj noted that the winter Yatra is a major attraction among the devotees.
