Maharaj says opposition undermined dignity of Assembly, stalled discussion on public issues

Cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj said that the opposition disrupted proceedings and repeatedly obstructed the house, undermining the dignity of the Vidhan Sabha and stifling public aspirations since the session started in the summer capital Gairsain in Chamoli district.

He stated that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had decided to hold the Assembly session in Gairsain to respect public aspirations but the opposition repeatedly created disturbances, failing to perform its role in the house. Maharaj stated that the opposition sought a discussion on law and order but refused to follow rules and procedures. He claimed that the opposition’s behaviour reflected disappointment after the recent municipal and Panchayat elections, in which the BJP received a public mandate.

According to Maharaj, the government organised the session in line with the interests of the mountain regions and public needs during the monsoon. Despite this, the opposition blocked proceedings, both inside and outside the assembly, resulting in the early closure of the session and the cancellation of the question hour. He claimed that the opposition does not want discussions on public welfare issues and instead focused on political interests. Public will not forgive them for their conduct inside and outside the Assembly, he added.
