Mahila Congress holds protest march on crime against women

Uttarakhand Mahila Congress organised a march to the State headquarters of BJP on Wednesday to register its protest on the increasing cases of crime against women in Uttarakhand. The workers of the Mahila Congress led by its president Jyoti Rautela assembled at the Him Palace hotel and then started a march towards the BJP office located at Balbir road. Heated exchange of words between the Police and the Congress occurred when the Police stopped the march near the BJP office. Some of the Congress leaders and workers tried to scale the barricades while others staged a sit-in protest at the site.

Addressing the workers Rautela said that the recent National Annual Report and Index on Women Safety (NARI-2025) has included Dehradun among the 10 most unsafe cities in the country. She said that according to the report of National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) – 2022 a total of 4,337 cases of crime against women were registered in the State. She said that the BJP is now trying to cover up the facts.

Former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat who participated in the protest said that the BJP government is insensitive towards women and their safety. He said that BJP leaders are involved in many cases of exploitation of women in the State.

Former MLA Ranjit Rawat alleged that the government is protecting the criminals. Senior vice president of Mahila Congress Asha Manorama Dobariyal Sharma said that the BJP’s rhetoric of ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ has got exposed.
