Dehradun police issue notice to survey firm over NARI report

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Dehradun police have issued a notice to PValue Analytics, the company that conducted the National Annual Report and Index on Women’s Safety (NARI) 2025, which ranked Dehradun among the 10 unsafe cities in the country out of 31 included in the survey.

The company has been directed to present the factual data used in the survey within three days. After the launch of the report last week, the Dehradun police denied the claims that the city is among the unsafe cities of the country.

They claimed that the survey relied on computer-assisted telephone and personal interviews with 12,770 women across 31 cities, with only 400 participants from Dehradun out of a population of around nine lakh women. And conclusions based on such a small electronic sample cannot represent the city.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh on Wednesday assigned the inquiry of the report to the Rishikesh superintendent of police Jaya Baluni. Following the order, Baluni sent a notice to the company’s founder and managing director Prahlad Raut, instructing him to appear with the survey data.

The notice states that further action will be taken after examination of the figures. The SSP informed that the inquiry was initiated after concerns that the published report contradicted official records and created a negative perception of safety among parents, women and young girls in Dehradun. After the police get all the required data from the company, further action will be taken accordingly, he said.
