The State food and civil supplies minister Rekha Arya has directed the department officials to make proper arrangements in the foodgrain storage facilities. She gave this directive while conducting an on- site inspection of Lakhanmandi food warehouse in Haldwani on Thursday.
During the inspection, Arya inspected all the storage arrangements in the warehouse. Visibly unsatisfied with the storage arrangements in the godown, she directed the officials concerned to improve things at the earliest. “The government is providing foodgrains to the needy under the food security scheme. Keeping this in view, the officers concerned must ensure that the foodgrain storage facilities in the godowns conform to the expected standards. We can hardly afford the stored food grains getting damaged in any way,” she said.
Arya also interacted with the farmers and listened to the problems they have been facing during the inspection. Taking serious note of the grievances articulated by the farmers to her, the minister asked the department officers concerned to see to it that all the rules framed in the interests of the farmers over the years are strictly followed. “We must ensure that no farmer incurs loss due to official apathy,” she said and added that in case any complaint of their grievances remaining unattended comes, the officers concerned will be made accountable and steps might be taken if any negligence is found in discharge of mandated duties.
