A man has been arrested for allegedly posting objectionable comments against BJP women leaders on Facebook, on Sunday. The controversy started after objectionable comments were made against BJP Mahila Morcha members and other party leaders following a protest by the party against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Dehrdun visit on Friday. The BJP members had then filed a complaint at Dalanwala police station, demanding strict action against the accused.
Dalanwala police station in-charge Narendra Gehlawat said the accused, Pauri native Rajendra Singh Rawat, a current resident of New Delhi, was arrested after the police received the complaint. He said the accused was produced before the court which sent him to Suddhowala jail.
According to the complaint, BJP women leaders found offensive and abusive comments on a Facebook profile named “Pahad Premi Rajendra Uttarakhandi” on Saturday morning. They alleged that the posts contained vulgar and insulting language against women, especially BJP women leaders, and were shared on social media through screenshots.
A delegation of the BJP Mahila Morcha, including Neha Sharma, Kamli Bhatt, general secretary Vidushi and other office-bearers, submitted a written complaint to the police. They demanded strict legal action under the Information Technology Act and other relevant laws. Police registered the complaint, started an investigation and later arrested the accused under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita section 170. On Sunday, a delegation led by BJP Mahila Morcha Ruchi Bhatt visited Dalanwala police station to thank the police for swift action in the case.
