 PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

A man allegedly shot a woman before killing himself inside a rented room in Kalyanpur under Vikasnagar police station area on Wednesday morning. The man died on the spot, while the woman sustained serious injuries and is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dehradun. Police suspect that the case is linked to an unrequited love affair, but said at the same time that the exact reason would be known only after the investigation is completed.

Speaking of the incident, the circle officer (CO), Vikasnagar, Vivek Kutiyal said that on hearing the gunshots at around 10:15 AM, the neighbours had immediately informed the police. “When our team reached the spot, they found the room locked from inside. They broke the door open and found Kamlesh, a resident of Chakrata, and Sangeeta, a resident of Baun (Badun) in Uttarkashi, lying in a pool of blood. Kamlesh was dead, while Sangeeta was still breathing. She was first taken to a hospital in Vikasnagar and later referred to a private hospital in Dehradun due to her critical condition. The bullet seemed to have grazed her temple,” he informed.

During the initial investigation, police found that Kamlesh had allegedly shot Sangeeta first and then shot himself with a country-made pistol recovered from the room. Police said that Kamlesh and Sangeeta appeared to be involved in an extra-marital affair despite both being married. The local residents said that Kamlesh would often visit Sangeeta’s house.

A forensic team visited the spot and collected fingerprints and other evidence. Later, the families of the victims were informed.

Queried over the motive, CO said that the exact circumstances behind the incident would become clear only after the forensic report is received and the injured woman gives her statement. “The investigation is continuing,” he added.
