Man stabs friend to death during dispute in Muni Ki Reti

A drunk man Akshay Thakur allegedly stabbed his friend multiple times near a liquor shop in Muni Ki Reti area in Tehri district near Rishikesh late on Saturday. The victim, 28-year-old Ajendra Kandari was with his neighbour, friend and a barber Thakur when the incident occurred near a local liquor shop. The officials said that both men were drinking when a dispute broke out between them. The argument escalated and Thakur reportedly picked up a knife from a nearby stall and stabbed Kandari multiple times in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital in critical condition and later referred to AIIMS Rishikesh for further treatment. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival, as per the officials. The Muni Ki Reti police took possession of the body and initiated postmortem procedures. The exact number of stab wounds will be confirmed after the postmortem report, as per the officials. They informed that following the incident, Thakur fled the scene. Police teams are actively searching for him. Local residents reacted to the killing by gathering at the PWD junction and demanding the closure of the liquor shop. Police said that the investigation is ongoing.
