Traffic plan issued to avoid inconvenience during Chhath Puja

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Dehradun police issued a traffic management plan to avoid inconvenience to the public on the occasion of Chhath Puja. The arrangements will remain in place on October 27 and 28 near major locations such as Premnagar, Maldevta, Chandrabani and Nehru Colony, where devotees gather along riverbanks and canals for rituals. The police will manage vehicle movement and parking to maintain a smooth flow of traffic during peak hours, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.

He informed that the police have designated several parking points near the Asan River for vehicles arriving from Selaqui, Jhajhra and Premnagar. These include the parking lot of Subharti College, an area near Uttaranchal University, space near the petrol pump at Nanda Ki Chowki and open spots on the riverbank. In Selaqui, vehicles will use open space near the riverside. Devotees travelling toward Maldevta from Raipur and Balawala will park on Maldevta Road. Vehicles from ISBT, Clement Town and Mohabbewala heading to Chandrabani will park at the Chandrabani Haat Market ground. Traffic diversions will guide vehicles traveling from Dehradun toward Sahaspur and Vikasnagar through Rangharwala junction, Daru Chowk, Badowala, Sindhniwala junction and Dhulkot. Devotees approaching Nanda Ki Chowki from within the city will move via Rangharwala junction and Prem Nagar Chowk. Vehicles from Bhaowala to Premnagar will use Sudhowala Chowk, Balaji Dham Cut and Thakurpur Road. Traffic from Bidholi will reach Premnagar through Nanda Ki Chowki, Sudhowala Chowk and Thakurpur Road. Vehicles traveling from Premnagar to Jhajra, Sudhowala and Bidholi will be routed via Thakurpur Road and Balaji Dham. Heavy vehicles from Dhoolkot junction will divert toward Singhniwala through Badowala. Police may adjust the plan as needed based on crowd density. The SSP said that due to the risk of stampedes at crowded locations, the police have imposed a complete ban on DJ systems and firecrackers. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones will be towed by traffic cranes. The police urge residents to use only designated parking spots and rely on public transport when possible. Emergency service vehicles will not face restrictions or diversions. The SSP appealed to citizens to cooperate with the administration and support smooth conduct of Chhath Puja celebrations.
