In a dramatic move, the Congress MLAs Manoj Rawat and Harish Dhami sat on a Dharna in the gallery of the house on the second day of the Monsoon session of the assembly in support of their demands. While Kedarnath MLA Rawat demanded the start of the Char Dham Yatra, Dhami raised the issue of mobile connectivity in his area. Both these MLA arrived in the house holding placards in support of their demands. Talking to the media persons, Rawat said that while all other religious places in the state are open the Char Dham Yatra is banned. He said that the government has failed to take up the case in the High Court (HC) properly.
Rawat said that thousands of people dependent on the Yatra are facing hardships and in view of the decrease in the infection level of Covid-19, the government should start the Yatra. Dhami said that 50 per cent area of his constituency Dharchula is not covered by any mobile network. He said that the Nepalese mobile networks are used by people of the area which is located on the International boundary. Dhami claimed that he had sanctioned a sum of Rs 26.50 lakh from his MLA local area development fund for establishing mobile towers but they were not made functional. Other Congress members joined the duo in Dharna. Later chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami invited both the MLA for talks in his office and assured them that their demands would be looked into.
