No respite in sight, say weathermen

Many areas of Uttarakhand are witnessing an intense spell of high temperatures with mercury soaring much above seasonal averages.
The weathermen have said that there will be no respite from the heat wave-like condition in the next two to three days. The State Meteorological Centre has warned that a heat wave is likely to occur at isolated places over Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun districts and adjoining areas of Uttarkashi district on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the provisional State capital Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius which is five degree above the average. The Centre recorded a maximum temperature of 40.5 degree Celsius at Pantnagar which is four degree more from the average. The soaring temperature triggered by blowing of dry winds from Pakistan and Rajasthan to north India is also affecting life in the mountainous areas of the State. The weathermen recorded 29.1 degree Celsius maximum and 15.1 degree Celsius minimum temperature in Mukteshwar on Tuesday which is much higher than the average.
The State Meteorological Centre informed on Wednesday that during the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained normal to appreciably above normal in the plains and normal to markedly above normal in the mountainous areas of the State.
