Martyr lieutenant Goswami cremated with full honours

Lieutenant Bireshwar Goswami who lost his life during the counter-terrorism Operation Sherawali after slipping from a steep mountain ridge into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday evening was cremated with full military honours at Vishwanath Ghat in Almora on Sunday. Slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and those hailing the martyr rang as the last rites of the 25-year-old army officer were conducted in his hometown. A native of Badi in Almora district, Goswami was posted in Assam Regiment. Having completed his initial education from the Army Public School in Ranikhet and Sainik School, Ghodakhal, he graduated and then was selected in the National Defence Academy. He joined the army in January 2023. According to his family members, Goswami was expected to be promoted to the rank of captain in a few days. The news of his death spread a pall of gloom among his family members and the area. His father is posted in an administrative position in the Bhanoli Tehsil while his mother is the principal in a primary school.
