Two alleged criminals were injured and arrested following a police encounter in the Rishikesh area late on Sunday night. The accused were reportedly wanted in connection with a recent firing incident in Rishikesh in which two persons sustained injuries.
According to police, the suspects were travelling on a motorcycle with their faces covered when a police team attempted to stop them during a routine checking drive. Instead of complying, the accused allegedly rammed a police barricade and sped towards the Shyampur area in an attempt to escape.
Police personnel chased the motorcycle, during which the accused allegedly opened fire on the police team. In retaliation and self-defence, the police fired at the suspects.
Both accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were subsequently overpowered and taken into custody. They were later shifted to a government hospital for treatment.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional details regarding the accused and the case are being verified.
