The renowned boxer, Olympic medalist and former Rajya Sabha member Mary Kom met the principal secretary to the chief minister RK Sudhanshu. Although it was called a courtesy call, they are said to have been engaged in detailed discussions on how to encourage youth participation in sports and explore opportunities for nurturing their talents through collaboration with corporate houses and non-governmental organisations.
In line with the CM’s vision, the discussion had included strategies to motivate youth towards sports by improving sports facilities, providing better training and creating opportunities for athletes from the State at both national and international levels, sources, privy to the details, said, adding that the focus was on strengthening the sports culture in the State.
Also present at the meeting were the secretary Ranveer Singh, Sports director Deepti Singh, and additional secretary to the CM Manmohan Mainali.
