MCD board pushes for strict implementation of property tax

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) board on Thursday discussed strictly implementing property tax with councillors raising concerns over gaps in tax collection and compliance.
On the second day of the board meeting, Vasant Vihar councillor Ankit Aggarwal said that with the recent increase in property tax rates, it is important to bring all residential and commercial properties, for which the tax is not being paid currently, into the system. He suggested that such properties should be identified and the tax should be collected under the one-time settlement scheme to strengthen revenue generation.
Backing the proposal, Ajabpur Saraswati Vihar councillor Sohan Singh Rautela pointed at lapses in tax collection, particularly on commercial buildings. He called for stricter enforcement and better monitoring to ensure compliance.
Responding to the concerns, the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said that the corporation will take necessary steps to streamline the system and bring more properties under the tax ambit. She assured that action will be initiated soon to improve collection efficiency.
