The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected the revenue of over Rs 37 crore as property tax in the financial year 2021-22 as per the calculation done by the tax section till late Friday evening. The municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly informed that though the corporation has the data of the tax submission made on the counters in MCD premises, it could not get the full data of online transactions as the server of the urban directorate’s website was down on Friday. He said that as per the calculation till late Friday evening, the corporation has collected over Rs 37 crore so far. On the question of whether this collection can cross the mark of Rs 40 crore, the tax superintendent said that nothing can be said with certainty before Monday. There are about 1.10 lakh properties registered in the corporation but only about 70,000 property owners deposited the tax in the last financial year. The officials said that the tax section will start making the list of major defaulters of non-residential properties in the first week of April to issue notices who will have to pay tax along with the penalty. Even the residential property owners who did not deposit tax this year will have to pay taxes for both financial years along with 12 per cent interest on the amount of pending property tax as the penalty from this month.
