MCD demolishes illegal structures in anti-encroachment drive

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Friday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in different parts of the city following directions from the mayor Saurabh Thaphliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal to keep the city organised and free from encroachments.

Officials said that the corporation removed illegal encroachments from municipal land and secured government properties during the drive. In Dhoran Khas, illegal boards, unauthorised plotting and a wall constructed illegally on MCD land were demolished. In the ATS Colony area, permission was also issued for the construction of a boundary wall to protect government land and prevent future encroachments.

An illegally constructed road built on municipal land was also demolished in the Harbhajwala area.

Apart from demolition work, MCD teams also carried out market and encroachment-related inspections in various areas. Notices were issued in the Balawala Mandi area and in the vegetable market area of Banjarawala. Action against encroachments was also carried out on Raipur-Tapovan Road during the drive. Officials said that illegal occupation, unauthorised construction and encroachment on public or municipal land will not be tolerated and similar drives will continue in different parts of the city in the coming days.
