Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) said on Tuesday that it has launched a new initiative aimed at creating jobs and promoting self-employment among youth in the capital by developing a modern food court near the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Raipur area of the city. The food court will feature 32 shops which will serve fast food, local cuisine and street food. The initiative is also aimed at providing income generation opportunities for local youths.
The officials said that the construction of the food court premises is nearing completion and the auction process for allotting the shops to eligible candidates will begin soon. Once finalised, the selected individuals will be provided shop allotments, giving them an opportunity to earn a steady income and gain financial independence, they added.
The municipal commissioner Namami Bansal emphasised that the project is designed to empower young people and support them in starting their own businesses. “This initiative will provide youth with a platform to showcase their skills, run their own ventures and earn a livelihood,” she said. Bansal added that the initiative is aimed at providing them with employment and enabling them to become financially stable.
The food court’s location near the sports stadium is expected to attract athletes, spectators and local residents, increasing footfall and business opportunities for shop owners. Officials said that the project will not only generate employment but also boost economic activity in the surrounding area, strengthen local commerce and enhance public amenities. By combining entrepreneurship with community development, the project aims to create a sustainable model for youth engagement and urban growth in Dehradun.
